The Federal Government has disbursed ₦50 billion as earned allowances to academic and non-academic staff across federal universities. This payment, confirmed by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, fulfills a key promise made by President Bola Tinubu and is seen as a major move toward improving the welfare of university workers nationwide.
The Ministry of Education’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, stated on Wednesday confirming the release of funds. The announcement positions the payment as more than just a financial gesture—it is intended to signal the government’s dedication to revitalizing the education system and valuing the contribution of university staff.
Dr. Alausa described the disbursement as a reflection of President Tinubu’s belief in the power of education and the potential of young Nigerians. He noted that supporting staff welfare is vital for delivering quality and globally competitive education. He also praised the collaborative spirit between the government and academic unions, crediting this partnership for the current long stretch of uninterrupted academic sessions across federal universities.
According to the minister, maintaining steady academic activity and keeping students in school is a top priority. He expressed confidence that the era of recurring university strikes will soon come to an end. The government has also restated its commitment to working closely with stakeholders to ensure that every Nigerian child has access to quality education.
