The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully arrested a 21-year-old woman suspected of trafficking ammunition to terrorists operating in sensitive areas of the state. The woman, Fatima Salisu, hails from Funtua in Katsina State. She was apprehended in the Azuba area of Lafia on Thursday, May 15, after she was found transporting large quantities of ammunition through Keana and Doma Local Government Areas. Authorities believe she was attempting to deliver the weapons to terrorist groups in Katsina.
The arrest followed credible intelligence received by the police. Acting on this, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima J. Mohammed, directed the deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The operation resulted in the recovery of 481 rounds of live ammunition, including 400 rounds of 7.62x39mm and 81 rounds of 7.62mm NATO cartridges.
Fatima Salisu is now in police custody, where she is being interrogated. Law enforcement agencies are focusing on dismantling the arms trafficking network and investigating potential ties to terrorism and banditry in the region. The police described this arrest as a significant breakthrough in their ongoing efforts to combat illegal arms trade and violent crimes.
