A 23-year-old man, ThankGod Elufo, reportedly took his own life late Sunday night, June 29, 2025, behind Nwodo Estate in Ajaji Layout, also known as Bonsaac, Asaba, Delta State.
According to eyewitnesses, the tragedy unfolded after ThankGod’s elder brother asked him to dress up for an outing. Unknown to the brother, ThankGod had gone into the kitchen and allegedly stabbed himself.
Community members said a distress call was made to the local vigilante chairman, Mr. Okolo, who arrived at the scene shortly after. He then contacted the Divisional Police Officer of B Division, who sent officers to the location around 11 p.m. The police retrieved the body and took it to the morgue.
A resident who spoke to reporters revealed that ThankGod had survived a poisoning incident last year. Since then, his behaviour had become unstable, with frequent claims that unknown people were trying to harm him. Despite his outbursts, family members reportedly did not fully understand the depth of his struggles.
The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident on Monday, stating, “Yes, it’s confirmed.”
