Charles Awuzie believes there’s a huge gap between faith and critical thinking, and he’s no longer silent about it. Speaking on a podcast, he shared how his journey from being a pastor to a public thinker began with one unsettling realization: religion has lost its intellect. He noticed that many churchgoers don’t ask questions—they just believe. And that’s where he drew the line.
Awuzie pointed out that the earliest Christians were called saints, not believers. According to him, they were thinkers—people who searched for truth. But over time, this spirit of inquiry disappeared. Today, believers are told to accept doctrines without question. That, he said, is a serious problem.
He felt a personal duty to bridge the gap. His mission became simple: make believers think, and thinkers believe. But over time, he discovered that thinkers often don’t need belief—they rely on knowledge. Belief only fills the void when evidence is missing. So, he focused on challenging believers to move beyond blind acceptance and pursue understanding.
His teachings on social media attracted attention, but also backlash. The very people he tried to educate often responded with anger. He was shocked to find himself attacked, even dragged to the police, just for asking questions and exposing manipulation in religion. What frustrated him most was the hypocrisy. People who defend so-called prophets won’t call out staged miracles, yet they’ll punish someone for speaking the truth.
When asked if modern Africa still has space for miracles, Awuzie said yes—but not the kind seen in church dramas. For him, true miracles are found in transformation. A child in a poor village learning to code with AI, or an orphan rising to leadership—those are the miracles Africa needs. He believes scientific breakthroughs, education, and opportunity are the real acts of wonder in today’s world.
Awuzie recalled how, before 1963, cancer wasn’t considered a disease but just a natural way to die. It took persistence and progress to change that view, and today, cancer patients are surviving and thriving. That, to him, is a miracle backed by science.
He criticized the staged performances seen in some churches—from people rising from wheelchairs to supposed resurrections. One bizarre case involved a man allegedly raised from the dead in South Africa who immediately asked for rice. These stunts, he said, insult the real needs of Africans who deserve actual progress, not emotional manipulation.
Awuzie is no stranger to powerful pastors. He once moved in their circles. But his focus has shifted. He now speaks for those who are tired of empty rituals and desperate for truth. He believes Africa doesn’t need more noise—it needs change backed by knowledge, reason, and real impact.
