The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected the reported suspension of its State Secretary, Chief Chidi Avajah, and Dr. Sylvester Onyekwere, the Acting Ward Chairman of Ahia Ukwu Ward 2. The party declared the disciplinary action invalid, stating it had no constitutional backing.
This position was made public in a statement by the State Chairman, Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu, who described the suspension as a clear violation of Section 31 of the APC Constitution. According to him, any steps taken based on the suspension are considered invalid and cannot stand.
Dr. Ononogbu explained that the APC in Abia remains firmly committed to following its Constitution. He stressed that all decisions, especially those involving discipline, must follow proper procedures outlined in the party’s rules. He added that the party’s credibility depends on strict respect for due process and internal order.
To ensure fairness, the party plans to invite all parties involved in the issue for a hearing. This move, according to the statement, reflects the party’s focus on transparency and justice. The leadership will take further action only after reviewing all sides of the matter under the party’s constitution.
The suspended officials had earlier faced allegations of anti-party activities, which led to the controversial action. However, the state leadership has now stepped in, affirming its authority and responsibility to maintain order within the party through lawful means.
This decision is seen as a message to members that disciplinary actions must follow due process and that the leadership will act to preserve internal unity and legitimacy.
