The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly rejected reports suggesting internal disagreements and reaffirmed its unity as it prepares for the 2027 general elections. In a statement issued from Abuja on Monday, Deputy National Secretary Comrade Nkem Ukandu labeled such claims as false and the work of “retrogressive elements” attempting to create division within the party.
Ukandu emphasized that the ADC remains united, guided by the founding principles that have kept it strong over the years. He clarified that the ongoing coalition with opposition parties is a strategic and inclusive move, not a sign of desperation. The goal, he said, is to work toward rescuing Nigeria from poor governance.
The party’s decision to proceed with the coalition was carefully considered, with broad consultations and unanimous approval from the National Executive Committee (NEC). The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was present during the NEC meeting at NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja, in 2024, further validating the legitimacy of the process.
Ukandu added that there was complete unity within the National Working Committee (NWC) regarding the coalition discussions. Reflecting on the ADC Global Summit held on May 14, 2025, Ukandu pointed out that the party’s state and zonal chairmen voiced strong support for the coalition, particularly highlighting Lagos State Chairman George Ashiru’s speech.
Concluding, Ukandu assured that the ADC is steadfast in its mission to transform Nigeria, warning that any attempt to disrupt the party’s progress would fail. He reiterated that the ADC remains focused, united, and determined, regardless of political opposition.
