The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Tinubu to guarantee a credible and transparent governorship election in Anambra State scheduled for November 8, along with other upcoming off-season elections across Nigeria.
This appeal was made by ADC National Chairman, Dr Ralph Nwosu, during the certificate of return presentation to the party’s Anambra governorship candidate, Mr John Nwosu, at an event held in Abuja on Monday.
Dr Nwosu reminded the President of his history as a pro-democracy advocate during the 1993 struggle under the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), urging him to reflect that legacy by supporting fair and credible elections. He emphasised that such an effort would signal the government’s readiness to uphold democratic values leading up to the 2027 general elections.
Referencing the newly announced electoral timelines by INEC, including those of Osun and Ekiti, he stressed the importance of providing a level playing field for all political contenders. He believes that ensuring free and fair elections would help restore public confidence and strengthen the country’s democracy.
The ADC chairman also raised concerns about the current economic situation, noting the visible impact of inflation, unemployment, insecurity, and rising national debt. He urged the federal government to resist politicising monetary policy, warning that interference in institutions like the Central Bank of Nigeria could worsen the country’s economic challenges.
Dr Nwosu called for full transparency and professionalism in managing critical sectors, emphasising that economic recovery depends on honest leadership and institutional independence. He appealed to the President to allow the CBN to operate independently, managed by experts capable of steering the economy in the right direction.
After receiving his certificate of return, Mr John Nwosu expressed confidence in his chances at the polls. He promised to lead an administration based on transparency, inclusion, and sustainable development. He stated his intention to prioritise education, healthcare, and security while ensuring continuous public engagement and respect for citizens’ rights.
According to him, Anambra people now have a credible alternative. He pledged to meet their needs with a responsive government focused on accountability and long-term progress.
His running mate, Geoffrey Ndubisi, echoed the confidence, describing the ADC as the right choice for Anambra’s future and urging voters to support their vision in the upcoming election.
