Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has announced Friday, June 27, 2025, as a public holiday to celebrate the beginning of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1447 AH. The announcement was made through a statement by the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Rasheed Aderibigbe, who said the holiday would give Muslims across the state the opportunity to observe the day with their loved ones.
Governor Adeleke, in a message shared by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, described the Hijrah as a time for deep spiritual reflection and renewal. He highlighted the lessons of sacrifice, faith, and perseverance, urging Muslims to take inspiration from the Prophet Muhammad’s historic migration.
He encouraged residents to use the occasion to promote peace, justice, and tolerance, adding that the values of unity and mutual respect are essential for building a better society. Adeleke also called for renewed commitment to compassion and inclusiveness, stressing that the strength of the state lies in its diversity and shared humanity.
