According to the airline’s chairman, Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the event was described as a “tragic accident.” He expressed deep sympathy for the victims, stating that the airline’s thoughts are with the families and loved ones of everyone affected.

A local official at Ahmedabad airport reported that the aircraft had more than 200 passengers onboard. Flight AI171 was operating on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, a wide-body aircraft typically configured to carry over 200 people.
