The Akwa Ibom State Government is set to relaunch its free food distribution program in June, aiming to support the state’s most vulnerable residents. The announcement was made by Governor Pastor Umo Eno during a meeting with his 368 Ward Personal Assistants (PAs) at the Government House in Uyo.
Governor Eno emphasized the importance of the program, urging the PAs to ensure that the food aid reaches those who need it the most. To further motivate the PAs, the Governor revealed a 100% salary increase, raising their monthly pay from ₦250,000 to ₦500,000, effective from November 2024. This move was met with overwhelming support, with many PAs voicing their commitment to the Governor’s leadership, extending beyond the 2027 election cycle.
Aniefiok James, Dean of the College of Ward Personal Assistants, expressed his appreciation for the Governor’s consistent support of both their welfare and the overall welfare of the Akwa Ibom people. He also reaffirmed their full backing of the ARISE Agenda and the Governor’s political goals.
The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, Speaker of the State House of Assembly; Prince Enobong Uwah, Secretary to the State Government; Mr. Aniefiok Johnson, Executive Assistant/Chief Delivery Advisor; Elder Aniekan Akpan, State PDP Chairman; Chief Asam Asam, SAN; and Senator Effiong Bob, among other notable dignitaries.
