The 2025 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA) showcased some of the brightest stars in African cinema, recognizing exceptional talent in various categories. Seven Doors and Lisabi: The Uprising were among the night’s big winners. Femi Adebayo won the Best Lead Actor award for his role in Seven Doors, while Chioma Chukwuka won Best Lead Actress for her performance in the same film. Lisabi: The Uprising earned the Best Indigenous Language Film title, with Adedimeji Lateef and Adebimpe Oyebade Adedimeji receiving praise for their roles.
Other standout winners included Gabriel Afolayan for Best Supporting Actor in Inside Life and Mercy Aigbe for Best Supporting Actress in Farmer’s Bride. Leo Purman won the award for Best Cinematography for The Legend of the Vagabond Queen of Lagos, and Suspicion won Best Sound Design, with Michael Botha and Olaosebikan Okonrende taking credit.
Freedom Way by Blessing Uzzi was recognized as Best Movie, while Inkabi claimed Best Editing with Tongai Furusa’s work. Best Music Score was awarded to Tolu Obanro for Seven Doors, and the Best Costume Design award went to Adedamola Adeyemi for Christmas in Lagos.
Other notable honors included the Best Documentary award for Dundun, directed by Ifeoluwa Fatogun and Ebi Atawodi. Inside Life, directed by Clarence Peters, earned Best Series (Scripted), and the Best Director award for The Man Died went to Awam Amkpa.
Kayode Kasum received the Trailblazer Award, while Sani Muazu and Nkem Owoh were honored with Industry Merit Awards. This year’s AMVCA was a perfect blend of celebrating rising talent and honoring the giants of Nollywood, further solidifying its place as a major event in African cinema.
