Students from Saint John Vianney Science College in Ukwulu, Anambra State, won the first-ever UK-Nigeria debate championship, defeating top schools from Nigeria and the United Kingdom. The event, organized by Bring It On Africa and Debate Mate UK, aimed to promote cross-cultural dialogue and enhance students’ critical thinking, public speaking, and reasoning skills. Nigeria was represented by four schools: Britarch Schools and Sure Start School in Abuja, St. Augustine’s College in Jos, and Saint John Vianney Science College. The UK sent Central Foundation Girls’ School, Maghull High School, and Shireland High School. Anambra’s team, consisting of Chibueze Jennifer, Obiokafor Catherine, Eneoli Benjamin, and Onwuegbusi Valentine, guided by John Onuigbo, emerged as the overall champions. Dr. Nonye Soludo, wife of Anambra’s governor, praised the students for their outstanding achievement, highlighting the state’s commitment to education and talent development. She noted that this victory reflects Anambra’s focus on fostering exceptional skills and opportunities for its youth. Dr. Soludo also commended the school’s staff for their dedication to preparing students for future success through meaningful academic and personal experiences. This win marks another milestone in Anambra’s reputation for educational excellence.
