A recent tragedy has struck Bayelsa State, where Abinna Precious Briggs, a fresh graduate of the Niger Delta University (NDU), was murdered by suspected cultists. Briggs, who had just completed his final exams and was awaiting his project defense, was shot on the night of Monday, May 13, in Amassoma, the university’s host community. Sources indicate that a rival cult group carried out the killing.
Briggs was rushed to a nearby hospital after the shooting, but due to procedural restrictions related to gunshot wounds, he was not treated in time and died from severe blood loss. This marks the latest in a series of deadly cult clashes in the region, with at least ten fatalities reported in the past two weeks alone. Just four days prior, two NDU graduates awaiting their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployment were also killed in similar circumstances.
The Bayelsa State Police have confirmed the incident and are currently investigating the case in hopes of bringing the culprits to justice.
