APC Ward Suspends Nasarawa Chairman Over Alleged Anti-Party Conduct

Nasarawa APC chairman, Aliyu Bello, suspended over alleged anti-party activities after ward leaders accused him of backing rival party candidates.

Dr. Aliyu Bello, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, has been suspended by party leaders in Gayam Ward, Lafia Local Government Area. The suspension followed allegations of anti-party activities, which the ward executives described as a breach of party rules and a threat to the party’s unity.

During a press briefing in Lafia, Gayam Ward Chairman Ibrahim Iliyasu said the decision was made after credible complaints and investigations revealed that Bello had allegedly supported a candidate from another political party. According to Iliyasu, this action violated several parts of Article 21 of the APC Constitution, which prohibits acts that bring the party into disrepute or promote rival parties.

The ward executives stated that Bello’s conduct embarrassed the party and weakened its efforts. They also invoked their powers under the APC Constitution to suspend him pending further disciplinary action by the party’s higher organs.

The resolution, signed by top ward officials including the secretary, legal adviser, public relations officer, and women leader, has been forwarded to the Lafia LGA, Nasarawa State Executive Committee, and the party’s National Working Committee for ratification.

They advised Bello to stop identifying as a party member until the process is concluded.

However, the state’s APC Publicity Secretary, Douglas Otaru, challenged the suspension, calling it unconstitutional. He argued that ward executives lack the power to suspend or expel a state executive member, warning that those involved in the move risk disciplinary action themselves.

The development came a day after Otaru publicly accused an unnamed governorship aspirant of plotting to remove Bello from office.
