A commercial motorcyclist, Taiwo Adesooye, recently recounted the harrowing experience of being attacked and shot by suspected armed robbers in Ore, located in the Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State. The incident took place around 8 p.m. when Taiwo was ambushed by four assailants behind Ogo Oluwa hospital, a popular area in the commercial town.
Taiwo explained that he had just dropped off a passenger when he saw a man approaching a junction. He assumed the man might hire him for another trip, but he didn’t. However, things took a turn when he noticed four individuals emerging from a nearby bush. Initially mistaking them for security personnel, Taiwo was instructed to stop and remain calm. But the attackers quickly revealed their true intentions, pulling out guns and cutlasses from a bag.
The robbers began assaulting him, beating him brutally before forcibly pushing him off his motorcycle. They stole his phone and money, but one of them told Taiwo not to worry about being killed. Before he could process the situation, Taiwo felt a sharp pain in his left hand as one of the robbers shot him. Despite the gunshot, the attackers fled, leaving him bleeding and helpless on the ground.
Taiwo’s attackers believed they had left him for dead after shooting him. The thief’s actions were part of a growing pattern in Ore, where motorcycle theft and attacks on Okada riders have become alarmingly common. Just a week prior, another motorcyclist, Nazifi Ibrahim, was murdered by robbers who also took his motorcycle in the same area. The rising number of these crimes has left many in fear for their safety.
Taiwo was eventually found by passersby, who rushed him to the hospital for treatment. Despite the severity of the attack, he is now recovering from his injuries.
