Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of legendary musician Billy Joel, posted a heartfelt message following news of her father’s recent health diagnosis. The 75-year-old “Piano Man” singer has been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition caused by a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the skull that affects brain function. As a result, Joel has canceled all concerts scheduled through July 3, 2026.
In a touching Instagram post, Alexa called her father “the strongest and most resilient man” she’s ever known. She said he remains committed to recovering fully through ongoing physical therapy. Her message was shared alongside a black-and-white painting that showed what appeared to be a childhood memory of her holding hands with her father.
Joel’s medical team advised him to stop performing after recent concerts worsened his symptoms, affecting his hearing, vision, and balance. His team confirmed that his condition had been aggravated by touring and that doctors have now restricted him from future performances while he undergoes treatment.
Joel himself addressed fans through an official statement, apologizing for the cancellations and thanking them for their understanding. High-profile shows affected include a planned July 2025 performance with Rod Stewart at Yankee Stadium and an August 2025 show with Sting at Citi Field.
Alexa also thanked the public for their overwhelming support, adding that the love and concern have meant the world to both her and her father. She ended her message with lines from Joel’s song Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel), reminding everyone that the music lives on: “Someday we’ll all be gone, but lullabies go on and on. They never die. That’s how you and I will be.”
