A 42-year-old man accused of stabbing 11 people at a Walmart in Michigan has been identified as Bradford James Gille of Afton. The random attack took place Sunday in Traverse City, prompting emergency response teams and support from local citizens who helped subdue the attacker before police arrived. Authorities say Gille used a folding knife in the unprovoked assault and was arrested within minutes without injury.
Grand Traverse County Sheriff Michael Shea confirmed that Gille will face one count of terrorism and 11 counts of assault with intent to murder. Police are still working to determine a motive for the violent act. The FBI has stepped in to assist with the ongoing investigation.
According to Munson Healthcare, the region’s largest hospital system, seven victims are in fair condition while four remain in serious condition. A hospital spokesperson praised medical staff for their dedication and care, stating that patients have shown signs of improvement since being admitted.
Witnesses described the terrifying scene. Tiffany DeFell, 36, from nearby Honor, said she and her sister were in the parking lot when the chaos began. “It was really scary. Me and my sister were just freaking out,” she told the Associated Press. “This is something you see in movies, not something you expect to happen where you live.”
Walmart spokesperson Joe Pennington condemned the violence, offering support to the victims and gratitude to first responders. “Our thoughts are with those who were injured,” Pennington said, promising continued cooperation with law enforcement.
The attack has shaken the northern Michigan community, with local leaders, health workers, and federal agents now focused on recovery, justice, and understanding what led to the brutal incident.
