Chelsea Close €65m Deal for Dortmund Winger Jamie Gittens

Chelsea strike a major transfer deal to bring back former academy talent Jamie Gittens from Dortmund in a €65m move, reports claim.

Chelsea has reportedly sealed a transfer agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign England under-21 winger Jamie Gittens. According to Sky Sports, both clubs, currently competing at the Club World Cup in the United States, have reached a deal worth up to €65 million (£55 million or $76 million).

Gittens, 20, began his youth career at Chelsea before moving to Manchester City’s academy. He later joined Dortmund in 2022, where he went on to make 107 appearances. Last season alone, he scored 12 goals across the Bundesliga and Champions League, adding to his total of 17 for the club.

The move comes as Chelsea look to strengthen their attacking options. The club had earlier turned down a permanent transfer for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho following his loan stint. They are also dealing with the ongoing provisional suspension of Mykhailo Mudryk, who failed a drug test.

Gittens is expected to be Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer. He joins striker Liam Delap, midfielder Dario Essugo, and defender Mamadou Sarr. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Brazilian winger Estevao Willian will also link up with the Blues after completing the Club World Cup with Palmeiras.

The win marks Virginia’s first home triumph over a top 10 team since their 2005 victory against the Seminoles. Excited fans rushed onto the field the moment Florida State quarterback Thomas Castellanos’ last-second throw into the end zone fell incomplete. While Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell confirmed his players made it safely to the locker room, he admitted he was unsure if the chaotic scene left any issues. Virginia head coach Tony Elliott expressed regret that he could not shake Norvell’s hand, stressing his respect for the opposing coach and his hope that no one was seriously hurt. The Associated Press reported that one fan was carried off on a stretcher and several others received attention from stadium staff. Under new ACC rules, Virginia will face a fine for the field storming. The first offense comes with a $50,000 penalty, with repeated violations leading to higher fines. Morris had a strong outing with 229 passing yards, two touchdown passes, and three interceptions on 26-of-35 attempts. Running back J’Mari Taylor added 99 rushing yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. For Florida State, Castellanos threw for 254 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions, while also scoring once on the ground. The victory sent shockwaves through Charlottesville as the Cavaliers celebrated a memorable night that will stand as one of their biggest wins in recent history.
