Dapo Abiodun Marks 65 Years and Six Years as Ogun State Governor with Grand Celebrations

Governor Dapo Abiodun celebrates 65th birthday and six years in office with tributes praising his leadership, progress, and dedication to Ogun State.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State celebrated a special double milestone on May 29, 2025, marking his 65th birthday and the sixth anniversary of his inauguration as governor. Despite heavy rainfall, residents and government officials gathered to honor the governor, affectionately known as PDA. The day began with a Thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter in Abeokuta, where Abiodun expressed his joy through a lively dance, which the attendees warmly received.

Tributes poured in from notable figures. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu praised Abiodun’s leadership, highlighting his achievements in infrastructure, education, youth empowerment, agriculture, food security, and social development. He credited Abiodun’s transparent governance for turning Ogun into a stable and innovative state, attracting investment and boosting internal revenue. The President also commended Abiodun’s dedication to public service as vital to national progress.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also congratulated Abiodun, applauding his successful hosting of the National Sports Festival and calling it a legacy event that showcased Ogun’s hospitality and organizational strength. Obasanjo described the festival as world-class and a new standard for future events.

Sarafadeen Isola, former Secretary to the Ogun State Government, noted the governor’s impact on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic growth. He described Ogun State under Abiodun as a model of excellence and innovation, emphasizing the governor’s commitment to inclusive governance.

Traditional rulers also joined in the celebrations with praise. The Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, thanked Abiodun for revising laws that protect Obas and support traditional institutions, despite financial challenges. The Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, described the governor as humble and remarkable.

During the Thanksgiving service, Bishop Samuel Ogundeji of Egba West Anglican Diocese delivered a sermon reminding Abiodun to appreciate his blessings and acknowledge God’s role in his success. The bishop noted that many have aspired to the governor’s position but were not privileged.

The events on May 29 highlighted Dapo Abiodun’s steady leadership and personal milestones, reaffirming his influence and respect across Ogun State.
