Zamfara State has seen a remarkable turnaround since Dauda Lawal became governor in 2023. Known for its mineral wealth, the state has struggled with serious problems, including insecurity, economic struggles, and social conflicts. Bandit attacks and clashes between farmers and herders once made life difficult and slowed growth. Poverty, poor infrastructure, and weak education systems added to the challenges, making it hard for leaders to bring change.
From day one, Lawal set clear goals to improve infrastructure, boost the economy, and enhance public services. He aimed to change the negative image of Zamfara by tackling challenging issues head-on. Security was his top priority, as he knew peace was essential for development. He launched the Zamfara Security Trust Fund, led by former police chief MD Abubakar, and worked closely with the federal government to reduce violence. These efforts led to a significant decrease in insecurity, opening doors to investment and progress.
In just two years, Lawal has pushed forward several key projects. Essential roads, such as the one from Freedom Square to Nasiha Chemist, have been repaired, and street lighting has been installed to improve safety and encourage community life. Farmers received support through improved seeds, fertilizers, and farming tools, which boosted agricultural output. As he marks his second year, Lawal remains focused on driving growth and building a brighter future for Zamfara.
