Afrobeats star Davido has revealed that performing in Nigeria can sometimes be more profitable than traveling overseas for shows. Speaking during a podcast interview with an American host who expressed frustration about not booking him for a summer concert, Davido explained that local private events in Nigeria often come with big payouts. He mentioned that he could earn as much as $400,000 for a single naming ceremony.
Using India as a comparison, Davido pointed out that wealthy Nigerians go all out for personal events, often booking their favorite artists to perform for close family and friends. According to him, it’s common for those with money to invite big names their wives or children admire to make their celebrations more memorable. He also noted that while international gigs offer exposure, staying in Nigeria sometimes makes better financial sense.
Davido’s comments offer a glimpse into the high demand for top-tier entertainers in Nigeria’s social scene, where private parties—ranging from weddings to birthdays and naming ceremonies—are becoming major performance opportunities for artists.
