Efforts by constituents in Delta Central to recall Senator Ede Dafinone have been strongly opposed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State. The move, initiated by members of the Nigeria Polling Units Chairmen Forum (NPUCF), claims that the senator’s performance has been unsatisfactory and calls for his resignation. Led by Comrade Nicholas Evwienure, the group argued that Dafinone, despite representing the Urhobo nation, one of the largest ethnic groups in Nigeria, has failed to make a significant impact in the Senate. Evwienure emphasized that Dafinone’s lack of a strong voice in the chamber was detrimental to the constituency, adding that serious commitment was missing in his representation.
In response, the Delta APC has firmly rejected the recall effort, branding it as a futile and misguided attempt. In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the party described the recall campaign as a baseless attack on Dafinone’s record. The APC pointed out that the recall effort emerged when the senator was praised for his practical legislative contributions and development-driven initiatives. The party emphasized that Dafinone had exceeded expectations and made notable strides in serving Delta Central. It also criticized the group behind the recall for lacking political legitimacy and moral authority to speak for the people of the district.
The APC reaffirmed its full support for Senator Dafinone, insisting that the senator’s achievements in office speak for themselves. The party warned that it would not allow any attempts to tarnish the senator’s reputation, stressing that credible regional APC leaders had endorsed no legitimate recall effort.
