Local government chairmen in Delta North have strongly denied endorsing a document supporting the creation of Anioma State, describing it as forged and unauthorised. The chairmen from all nine councils in the region stated that their signatures and official stamps were used without their knowledge or consent.
The document, which has been widely shared on social media, was presented by Senator Ned Nwoko during a public hearing. The senator, who represents Delta North, claimed it reflected the backing of the council leaders for the proposed Anioma State. But the chairmen say they never saw, signed, or agreed to any such document and were shocked to find it in circulation.
In a joint statement, the council bosses clarified that while they are not against the idea of Anioma State, any such move must follow legal steps and reflect genuine public interest. They made it clear that no meetings were held with Senator Nwoko, either in private or official capacity, and that no one was permitted to act or sign anything on their behalf.
The statement described the document as fake and its use as a serious misrepresentation of public office. The chairmen stressed that the process of state creation should be open, lawful, and built on clear consensus, not on deception or impersonation.
They also confirmed that legal and administrative steps have been launched to trace those responsible for the forgery, adding that the public should completely ignore the document and those promoting it.
