Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team continued its defense by questioning a former romantic partner, identified in court as “Jane.” She was cross-examined for the fifth consecutive day, with the defense attempting to show her involvement in sexual activities with Combs as consensual.
Jane disagreed, telling the court she felt compelled to participate in acts she didn’t want, simply to maintain the relationship. “I was just adapting to my circumstances,” she said. “I was going along with something I really didn’t feel I could say no to.”
Although she once expressed love for Combs, Jane said she now feels deep resentment. “I resent him for all of it,” she told the jury. She confirmed that Combs gave her about $40,000 in April 2023 to help her relocate, but alleged it was more about control than support.
During the cross-examination, defense attorney Teny Geragos read out messages between Jane and Combs, including one where she referred to him as “my friend, my lover, my boyfriend even though you don’t like that word.”
The defense questioned her about attending a 1218-hour “sobriety party” at the L’Ermitage Beverly Hills, which reportedly included escorts. Jane admitted she agreed to join, but insisted her decisions were influenced by emotional dependence. “I resent him for knowing how much I loved him and knowing I couldn’t say no to him,” she said.
She also recalled the emotional toll of seeing Combs take Yung Miami on a trip to Turks and Caicos shortly after she said she was coerced into sex on her birthday. “I was extremely heartbroken,” she told the court.
Although text messages showed Combs sometimes offered her options, Jane stood firm that she didn’t feel free to choose. Lavish gifts like Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry were presented in court as evidence of attempts to keep her attached. Jane explained she often asked for more meaningful time together outside of hotels, but Combs reportedly rejected such requests.
When asked about the price of a Bottega Veneta handbag she received, Jane responded emotionally, “How much does my body cost?”
She also shared details about Combs’ relationship with singer Cassie Ventura, describing her as one of his “greatest loves.” According to Jane, Combs once wrote Ventura love letters while under the influence and had ongoing conflicts with another woman, Gina, which added to his stress.
Meanwhile, the prosecution raised concerns about Juror No. 6, questioning their honesty and suggesting they be removed. Combs’ legal team objected, hinting at possible racial bias in the request.
Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to charges of sex trafficking, racketeering, and promoting prostitution. His defense is being handled by Teny Geragos, Marc Agnifilo, and Nicole Westmoreland.
Outside the courtroom, comedian Kevin Hart mentioned Combs in a joke at the BET Awards, referencing wild parties and baby oil—an apparent nod to Combs’ public image.
Testimonies from other witnesses have added more allegations, including physical abuse, emotional manipulation, and psychological trauma. One former assistant spoke about lasting PTSD linked to her time working with the music mogul.
The trial is expected to continue through late June, with prosecutors aiming to rest their case by June 20.
