A joint operation by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian military led to the killing of 45 armed bandits near Kuchi town in Munya Local Government Area of Niger State. The bandits were reportedly on their way to carry out a major attack when they were intercepted.
Security officials confirmed that the attackers, numbering around 100, came from Bilbis forest in Zamfara State and parts of Kaduna State. They were allegedly invited by notorious bandit leader Dogo Gide to attack communities in the Kuchi area.
The DSS, acting on precise intelligence, launched a surprise ambush in the early hours of June 2, 2025. The operation stopped the bandits before they could strike. Several motorcycles and weapons were recovered after the raid. Many of the attackers were killed on the spot, while others fled with serious injuries.
Five DSS operatives were injured during the gun battle and are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Sources described the raid as part of a larger and ongoing campaign to weaken Dogo Gide’s network. Just weeks earlier, another operation in the same region resulted in the elimination of more than 50 bandits. Officials say these efforts are beginning to bring relief to residents and reclaim territory from the armed groups.
Although no further details were shared, security sources say pressure on the group will continue, as authorities intensify efforts to protect the affected communities.
