Emma Watson has been barred from driving in the United Kingdom for six months after a speeding incident added to her existing traffic violations. The 35-year-old actress was caught driving at 38 mph in a 30 mph zone in Oxford on July 31, 2024. The violation, captured by a traffic camera, pushed her over the legal limit for penalty points, leading to the suspension.
Watson, who already had nine points on her license, was fined nearly $1,400. Her lawyer, speaking at a brief court hearing she did not attend, confirmed she had no difficulty paying the fine.
Watson is currently living in Oxford, where she is pursuing a master’s degree in creative writing.
The “Harry Potter” star previously shared that stepping away from acting helped her regain control of her life. She expressed frustration about being the public face of projects she had little creative influence over. That feeling of being “caged,” as she described it, led her to focus on projects where she could take full responsibility.
Watson first rose to global fame at age 11 with her role as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and appeared in the series until she was 21. Her later film roles include The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Beauty and the Beast, and Little Women. In 2022, she directed and starred in her own project, Prada Paradoxe.
