Christopher Sunday Ekwo, the Igwe of Obeleagu Umana in Enugu State’s Ezeagu Local Government Area, has expressed deep gratitude to the Adani Care Foundation for its Easter initiative. The foundation, which provided essential medical supplies and food on Easter Monday, also began vocational training for the youth of Amube Evuazu in Obeleagu Umana.
The program, initiated by Mrs. Nneka Jemie, was designed to uplift her hometown, with support from her husband, Prof. Jemie, a well-known academic and media expert. Despite living outside the state, Mrs. Jemie remains committed to her roots, channeling her resources to help those in need, especially the elderly, orphans, and sick in her community.
Igwe Ekwo acknowledged her selfless efforts, emphasizing that although she may not be wealthy, her devotion to improving the lives of others is both admirable and invaluable. “Her focus on the vulnerable, including widows and the sick, is truly noble. We are deeply thankful for the medical outreach, food distribution, and the vocational training for our youth,” he said.
Mrs. Jemie, speaking to reporters, explained that the Adani Care Foundation aims to raise awareness about the widespread poverty in rural Nigeria. She highlighted their focus on empowering widows, orphans, the elderly, and others in need. “Our goal is to lift people above the poverty line and help them lead better lives,” she stated.
The foundation’s efforts have been impactful, having provided over 430 medical screenings, critical medications, and served 1,300 hot meals. In addition, they distributed large quantities of food, including hundreds of 50kg rice bags, to alleviate food shortages. They have also awarded scholarships and continue to offer vocational training for local youth.
At the Easter event, the foundation reached out to more than 150 families by gifting them 50kg bags of rice and offering free medical care. A dentist also conducted a practical demonstration on dental hygiene during the two-day outreach. The Adani Care Foundation’s dedication to the welfare of rural communities continues to inspire positive change.
