A former Lagos State lawmaker, Sir Jude Idimogu, has dismissed the chances of the opposition coalition led by former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar in unseating President Bola Tinubu come 2027. Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, Idimogu said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains too strong and well-structured to be defeated by any alliance.
Reacting to the adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the platform for the coalition, Idimogu, who serves as the Deputy Leader of Ndigbo in Lagos APC, said every politician has the right to join any party. However, he believes the move lacks the strength to achieve meaningful results.
He described the APC as a powerful political force backed by many influential figures, adding that defeating the party in the next presidential election would be extremely difficult. According to him, if Tinubu could not be stopped during his long journey to the presidency, it’s unrealistic to think he can be unseated now that he’s already in power.
Idimogu emphasized Tinubu’s political experience and strategic abilities, describing him as a man who understands how to win elections. He argued that the president’s hold on power, influence, and support across regions makes the coalition’s goal far-fetched.
He also called on Southern politicians to support Tinubu, just as their Northern counterparts stood by former President Muhammadu Buhari during his two terms. He expressed concern that many political players are more interested in personal gain than national interest, questioning the sincerity behind the formation of the coalition.
Idimogu predicted that the alliance may face internal problems before the next general elections. He added that while it might produce some lawmakers, it lacks the momentum to win the presidency.
“There’s no shaking for Tinubu in 2027. He’ll return as President. I pray for him and wish him well. God will do it for him,” he said.
NAN reports that the coalition led by Atiku, along with some aggrieved APC members, announced the ADC as their platform to challenge Tinubu’s re-election.
