The family of Shimite Bello Love, who served as Special Adviser on Trade and Export to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, to take direct control of the murder investigation. They want the entire case file and the prime suspect, David Favour Love, transferred to Abuja for a thorough and impartial probe. This call follows serious concerns about the handling of the case by the Delta State Police Command, which the family describes as flawed and unprofessional.
At a press conference in Abuja, Chief Kimashinor Nwakalo-Imu, representing the family, accused the Delta police of ignoring the IGP’s orders. The family fears this could be an attempt to block justice. Although the case file was partially moved to the IGP Monitoring Unit, the suspect remains under Delta police custody, raising red flags for the family. The investigation began after an alleged domestic dispute on Easter Sunday that led to Shimite Bello’s death.
The family appreciates the IGP’s effort to oversee the investigation but stresses the need for full compliance from the Delta police. They demand the immediate re-arrest of David Favour Love and his transfer to Abuja. If this does not happen, they want the police to officially declare him wanted and arrest him wherever he is found.
Chief Nwakalo-Imu emphasized that the family is pressing for criminal negligence charges regardless of the autopsy outcome. He made it clear that this issue exceeds the family’s authority and requires state-level intervention. The family pledges to continue pushing for justice until their demands are met.
