A viral video showing an alleged case of police harassment in Abuja has prompted swift action from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command. The footage, which has gained wide attention on social media, features a man accusing police officers of harassment during a patrol operation.
Police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh confirmed on Friday that the incident happened on June 4, 2025, around 1 p.m. The officers involved, part of a surveillance unit under the Kubwa Area Command, were on patrol near the Chikakore Bridge, an area flagged for increased security checks.
According to the police, they noticed a parked car that had remained in the same spot for over 20 minutes. On approaching the vehicle, they met two male occupants. During questioning, one of the men reportedly became aggressive, rejected the officers’ request for information, and called for public attention, leading to the filmed confrontation.
As the video spread online, the FCT Commissioner of Police ordered the arrest of the officers seen in the clip. The Command also opened an internal investigation to review the actions of the patrol team.
Adeh urged those featured in the video to submit an official report to help clarify what happened. She added that the Police Command is committed to fairness and expects cooperation from the public to ensure transparency and accountability.
The case is currently under review as the investigation continues.
