FCTA Shuts Down PDP Headquarters Over 43 Years of Unpaid Ground Rent

The FCT Administration sealed PDP’s national office in Abuja over decades of unpaid ground rent, triggering controversy and political reactions.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has sealed the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) located at Wadata Plaza, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja. The enforcement took place at approximately 2:05 p.m. when FCTA officials arrived at the premises and secured the building.

This move is part of a broader crackdown on properties with revoked land titles following prolonged failure to pay ground rent. On Sunday, the FCTA confirmed its plan to reclaim over 4,700 affected properties, citing default periods ranging from 10 to 43 years.

Earlier in March, a comprehensive list of properties in arrears was released. Defaulters were given a 21-day deadline to settle outstanding payments. After the grace period expired, the administration began sealing identified buildings, including the PDP secretariat.

The decision has sparked criticism, with some accusing FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of using the revocation to target the PDP, a party he has clashed with in recent months. Despite the political tensions, the FCTA maintains that the action is part of a legal and administrative process targeting all defaulters.
