Federal Government Orders Probe into Viral Video Alleging Neglect at FMC Abuja

FG begins investigation into viral video showing alleged patient neglect at FMC Abuja. Hospital denies lack of equipment, promises transparency.

The Federal Government has launched a full investigation into a viral video that allegedly shows staff at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja, neglecting accident victims at the hospital’s emergency unit. The footage, widely circulated online, captures an apparent refusal by staff to attend to patients. One staff member in the video claims the unit lacked basic medical items like gloves, resuscitation tools, and patient transfer equipment.

Responding to the public outcry, the hospital management has denied these allegations. According to preliminary findings, all the mentioned supplies were available at the time. The hospital confirmed that latex gloves, medications, trolleys, wheelchairs, and emergency tools were in stock and functioning.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, has directed that a thorough investigation be carried out. He assured that the outcome of the probe will be shared with the public.

Hospital spokesperson, Obadiah Gana, stated that consultations have already begun with staff and key stakeholders to determine what led to the incident. He emphasized the hospital’s commitment to transparency and high standards of care.

FMC Abuja reiterated its reputation as a centre for advanced procedures such as open-heart surgery, kidney transplants, and spinal operations—services often unavailable in most public facilities. The hospital highlighted its efforts to assist underprivileged patients through a medical indigent fund and shared its commitment to treating all patients with dignity.

Management expressed regret for any distress caused and promised to use feedback to improve its services. The hospital also encouraged the public to make use of its feedback channels, which include hotlines, QR codes, and email contacts visible throughout the facility.
