FG Gives Infiouest 14 Months to Complete Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria Road Project

The federal government has set a 14-month deadline for the N525bn Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria road reconstruction. Work begins on Section II, with completion expected by mid-2026.

The Federal Government has officially given Infiouest Construction Company a 14-month deadline to finish rebuilding Section II of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria road. This section is part of the N777 billion total project cost and was handed over to Infiouest for N525 billion after the previous contract with Julius Berger Plc was revoked due to disagreements over cost adjustments.

This announcement was made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during the project’s official flag-off ceremony at Jere, located in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State. He stated that the reconstruction will be done using concrete-reinforced pavement and assured that it will be completed on schedule.

Umahi praised Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his strong support and commitment to the success of the project. He expressed confidence that with the backing of President Bola Tinubu and the cooperation of the Kaduna government, the entire 700-kilometre stretch from Abuja through Kaduna to Kano will be finished efficiently.

The minister noted that Section I of the project lies in Abuja, while Section III is in Kano. According to him, Julius Berger has already completed a substantial portion between Zaria and Kano. This includes 240 kilometres of road, and the remaining 140 kilometres on the other side, when multiplied by two lanes, brings it to 280 kilometres. He added that President Tinubu has not only committed to finishing this stretch but has also approved the addition of an 11-kilometre extension to link the road to Aminu Kano International Airport. Work on that segment is currently ongoing.

Umahi also shared that the President has ordered solar-powered streetlights to be installed along the entire road. In addition, Sections I and III—covering a combined 118 kilometres—have been awarded for completion at a total cost of N252 billion.

According to the minister, the government is determined to reduce accidents and ease traffic congestion by delivering a durable road network.
