Fresh Mandate for Grassroots Leadership as LASIEC Issues Certificates of Return

Lagos electoral commission presents certificates to new LG officials as they prepare to take office on July 26, promising roads, food relief, and security reforms.

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has presented certificates of return to newly elected chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors from the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas across the state. The official ceremony was held to validate the winners of the recently concluded local government elections.

Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, Chairman of LASIEC, praised voters, electoral stakeholders, and over 45,000 temporary staff for their commitment throughout the election process. She acknowledged minor challenges with voter accreditation but said swift action by security agencies helped to restore order and ensure the elections proceeded peacefully.

Justice Okikiolu-Ighile described the presentation of certificates as a turning point for grassroots leadership, urging the new officials to dedicate the next four years to improving lives across Lagos. She confirmed that their tenure begins on July 26, 2025, after the current administration completes its term.

Among the elected leaders, Ajeromi Local Government Chairman-elect Akindikpe Olaleko Olu promised to prioritize continuity and transparency. He introduced a new program called Ounje Ajegunle, aimed at fighting food insecurity by delivering subsidized food to every ward weekly. He also committed to maintaining the council’s annual security summit and ensuring that all roads in the area are tarred.

In Amuwo-Odofin, Chairman-elect Prince Lanre Sanusi vowed to fix roads, especially in FESTAC Town, where he accused the Federal Housing Authority of neglecting infrastructure. He pledged urgent rehabilitation of roads and reaffirmed his administration’s goal to uplift residents’ quality of life.
