Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has strongly condemned the killing of two travellers from Kano State who were attacked near Agan community on the outskirts of Makurdi. The victims were reportedly passing through the area when they were ambushed and killed by armed criminals.
In a statement released Tuesday night by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the Governor described the incident as wicked and unacceptable. He ordered security agencies to act quickly and arrest everyone involved. Following his directive, the Benue State Police Command confirmed that five suspects have already been taken into custody.
The Governor expressed deep sadness over the killings, noting that the victims had no ties to the state but lost their lives while simply travelling through. He stressed that Benue is known for being a peaceful and welcoming place and warned that such crimes must not define the state.
He said the attackers must be found and prosecuted, insisting that no criminal should be allowed to spoil the state’s image.
Governor Alia also sent his condolences to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State and confirmed that both had spoken earlier about the tragedy. He urged residents and Kano indigenes to remain calm and assured them that justice would be delivered quickly.
