Governor Otti Approves 18 New Bills to Strengthen Governance in Abia

Governor Otti signs 18 bills into law, advancing transparency, infrastructure, and people-focused reforms across Abia State.

Governor Alex Otti has signed 18 new executive bills into law, increasing the total number of legislative actions under his administration to 30 within two years. During the signing ceremony, he explained that the newly passed laws reflect the government’s focus on accountability, efficient governance, and development. He emphasized that each bill supports the state’s broader goals, echoing his campaign promises and the 2023 transition committee’s recommendations.

The Governor praised the Abia State House of Assembly for its ongoing support and commitment. He noted that the legislature’s role has helped reduce costs and fast-track reforms across both urban and rural areas. Otti described the collaboration between both arms of government as essential in building a more progressive Abia.

According to him, the reforms are visible in areas like infrastructure planning and government agency operations, adding that the laws passed are helping to reshape how the state approaches development.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, described the bills as abstract in structure but impactful in practice. He stated that while some of the bills are amendments, their effects will soon be evident in the lives of residents. The Deputy Speaker, Majority Leader, and other lawmakers echoed this sentiment, praising Governor Otti’s focused and visionary leadership.
