Governor Peter Mbah Confirms Loyalty to PDP, Denies Defection Rumors

Enugu Governor Peter Mbah says he remains in PDP, dismisses defection claims, and stresses focus on unity, governance, and peace in the state.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu has confirmed that he remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), clearing up speculation about his political allegiance. Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors on Saturday, Mbah pointed to the PDP flag behind him as a clear sign of his continued loyalty.

He acknowledged the internal issues affecting the PDP but stressed that such challenges were not unique to the party. According to him, every political party in the country faces its share of difficulties. He expressed confidence that the PDP would resolve its problems soon.

Responding to questions about independent candidacy, Mbah explained that Nigeria’s constitution does not allow individuals to contest elections without party sponsorship. He emphasized that politics remains an integral part of the process and cannot be completely avoided.

Governor Mbah said his administration’s focus is firmly on serving the people of Enugu State. He added that the citizens would ultimately decide whether or not to renew his mandate when the time comes.

He also revealed that his former rival in the 2023 governorship race, Chijioke Edeoga, has rejoined the PDP and is now working closely with him to advance the state’s development. Mbah said their collaboration has helped maintain political peace in the state, saving resources and encouraging teamwork.
