Gunmen, believed to be herdsmen, hijacked a Benue Links vehicle on May 31 at about 7 p.m. along the Owukpa-Orokam road in Ogbadibo Local Government Area, Benue State. The attackers ambushed the bus near Eyiupi community while it was traveling from Orba market in Enugu to Owukpa. Several female passengers, including children and adults, were abducted during the attack. One victim, who suffered serious gunshot wounds, was left behind after bleeding heavily, which the kidnappers feared would expose their location. She is now receiving critical care at St. Mary’s Hospital in Okpoga. Amos Agada, leader of the Owukpa vigilante group, confirmed the incident and said no ransom demand or contact has been made with the families as of June 1. Local security forces are actively working to rescue the abducted women. Community leader Hon Adikwu Daniel appealed to local government officials and security agencies to act quickly and improve security along this risky route, which has seen frequent attacks due to poor security presence.
