Gunmen attacked a pro-Tinubu mega rally in Igbogene, Yenagoa, on Saturday, causing panic and injuries among attendees. The event, organized by the NEW Associates — a political group linked to associates of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike — was already underway when five armed men emerged from a nearby forest and began shooting toward the stage.
The sudden gunfire threw the crowd into chaos as people scrambled for safety. Several participants sustained injuries during the rush to escape. Security personnel, including policemen and operatives from the Department of State Services, responded quickly. A gunfight broke out, lasting around ten minutes, before the attackers were forced to retreat.
Despite the violence, the rally organizers remain undeterred. Ebilade Ekerefe, secretary of NEW Associates, stated firmly that the group would not be intimidated or pressured into abandoning its support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
More updates are expected as the situation develops.
