SO MANY YOUNG NIGERIANS ARE DYING OF KIDNEY FAILURE.

This man had finished preparing for work. He was going to take his kids to school. On reaching the car door, he slumped. With the help of some neighbours, his wife rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Just like that!

News started flying that he was “attacked”. According to his wife, relatives, and friends, his death was not ordinary; it was mysterious. How could one just slump and die like that? At 36?

Well, they were right! It was an attack! I am not talking about the type of attack you insinuate. Let me tell you this: MOST cases of “ATTACK”, as usually described by our relatives and friends, are simply cases of “UNDIAGNOSED HYPERTENSION”.

The uncontrolled pressure on the arteries "attacked" the man's brain. This caused the blood and oxygen supply to his brain to be reduced.

That "attack" is an evidence that high Blood pressure truly is a silent killer. This is because high BP commonly presents no symptoms.

Many young Nigerians, especially under 30s and 40s, lack the culture of health preservation. We believe that we are too young to fall sick; too young to suffer high blood pressure. We, therefore, neglect the importance of regular health checkups. Most cases of high BP are accidentally diagnosed when we go to the hospital for a different health issue.

While high BP is common among the aged population, a person as young as 25 or even less can suffer from it.

This is dependent on whether your family lineage is at risk, your level of stress, too much intake of salt, physical inactivity, being overweight or obese, smoking, and alcohol use.

✓ Let us cultivate the culture of going to the hospital for health checks even when we do not feel sick.

✓ Eat a healthy diet (low fat).

✓ Moderate to low salt intake (Sodium in salt-retains water in your body-stress on the heart and vessels-high BP).

✓ Exercise to keep fit.

✓ Reduce your physical and emotional stressors.

✓ Do things that make you happy. No go eat too much food or steal someone's property say na them de make you happy o.

✓ Maintain a healthy weight.

✓ Avoid smoking (Nicotine in cigarettes>>>narrows your artery>>>High BP).

✓ Reduce your alcohol intake to a glass per day (alcohol increases hormone renin>>>high BP)

✓ Stop self-medication.

✓ Make water your favourite drink.

✓ AVOID herbal concoctions (this is a warning ⚠️) for your good o.

Undiagnosed and uncontrolled high BP can lead to KIDNEY FAILURE. The same way the man's brain was "attacked" due to high BP is the same way the kidneys are affected.

No wonder many young people die a lot these days due to kidney failure.

Do not joke with your health. This life na once o.

Lots of love ❤️🤍💙

Chai, so young. One needs to be doing checkups regularly regardless of age, self medication isn't good. Health is wealth.

Creating such awareness will help educate our youth on how to protect their health and live longer. It's a nice one.
