The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted continuous thunderstorms and rain showers across Nigeria from Sunday through Tuesday. Early Sunday mornings will see thunderstorms with moderate rains in parts of Taraba and Adamawa in the north. Afternoon and evening hours will bring thunderstorms and rain to more northern states, including Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, Jigawa, Borno, Gombe, and Bauchi.
In the North-Central region, skies will be cloudy in the mornings, followed by thunderstorms and rain over the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau states later in the day. Southern Nigeria will experience cloudy mornings with rain showers expected over several states, such as Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Edo, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa.
On Monday, thunderstorms and rain will continue in the north, affecting Sokoto, Zamfara, Bauchi, Taraba, Adamawa, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, and Kaduna states throughout the day. The North-Central region will also experience morning thunderstorms with rain in the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kogi, and Nasarawa, expanding in the afternoon to Plateau, Kwara, Benue, and neighboring states. The southern region will see morning rains in Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom, with widespread showers expected later.
Tuesday will bring isolated thunderstorms and moderate rain in Zamfara and Kaduna states in the north during the morning. Thunderstorms with rain will spread in the afternoon and evening across Taraba, Kaduna, Adamawa, Zamfara, Kano, Bauchi, Gombe, and Borno. The North-Central region will have morning thunderstorms in Niger, Plateau, and Benue, followed by more storms over the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Kogi, Benue, Niger, Kwara, and Plateau in the afternoon. The southern region will see morning rains in Lagos and Bayelsa, with rainfall expected across the entire area later in the day.
NiMet advises the public to prepare for strong winds that might accompany the thunderstorms. It urges residents to secure loose objects, avoid driving in heavy rain, disconnect electrical appliances, and stay clear of tall trees to prevent accidents caused by falling branches. Airline operators are encouraged to consult NiMet for detailed, location-specific weather reports to aid their operations.
