How AEDC Scammed Me: Popular Blogger KAA Exposes Shocking ₦300K Meter Fraud

KAA, host of KaaTruths, reveals how AEDC ignored him after he spent ₦300K fixing a faulty prepaid meter that kept swallowing units.

Popular blogger and host of KaaTruths KAA has opened up about what he describes as a shameful and expensive ordeal with Abuja Electricity Distribution Company AEDC. According to him AEDC practically scammed him of over ₦300,000 and still didn’t solve the problem.

It started when his prepaid meter suddenly stopped accepting credit. He immediately called the helpline but no one showed up for two days. He kept calling and still got nothing. This was after AEDC had already made residents of his estate pay ₦70,000 for meter relocation moving all meters from within compounds to outside electric poles.

With no response from customer service KAA visited the AEDC office. They promised to send someone. Eventually a field agent arrived and said he needed to “buy a code” for the meter but it would cost ₦50,000. KAA paid. The agent worked on the meter and it seemed to come back to life.

But just six days later ₦100,000 worth of units disappeared. The meter showed zero yet there was still light in the house. He thought it might be a system delay or divine backup units. But something didn’t feel right.

To be sure he recharged another ₦50,000. Within three hours the entire unit vanished. Still the lights remained on. He tried contacting AEDC again but most support lines were either switched off or didn’t respond including WhatsApp numbers listed publicly as active.

After a week of silence he reached out to a real estate developer who connected him with another AEDC field officer. KAA explained everything that the meter was swallowing units within hours and light wasn’t cutting off. He also mentioned how he had been spending ₦50,000 every three days for years even with minimal appliance use.

The officer said it could be fixed for ₦200,000.

Now here’s where KAA could have chosen to enjoy free light. But he didn’t. “Free things make me uncomfortable” he said. As a public figure known for calling out corruption he couldn’t risk headlines like “KAA Host of KaaTruths Podcast Caught in AEDC Bypass Scandal”

So he paid the ₦200,000. The officer returned the next day with some tools did another round of work and told KAA to recharge and test it. He did but within hours the units disappeared again.

This time KAA wasn’t having it. He called and messaged the officer for weeks demanding a proper fix or an official from AEDC to take over. At some point he was told the officer had been in an accident. Later the man returned made another attempt gave his usual assurance and yet again the meter failed.

At this point KAA had spent ₦320,000 trying to fix a problem caused by AEDC’s own system with no resolution.

He has now sent a final message to AEDC. They can ignore him if they like but he’s done paying for a problem they caused. “I’ve done my part as a responsible citizen” he said. “I’m not giving them another kobo”

His experience is not just about lost money. It’s a loud callout of how a major utility company can be so broken unaccountable and completely unbothered by genuine complaints. For KAA it’s no longer just meter trouble. It’s official robbery with no mask.
