Ibadan high chief Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke has taken a bold political step following his loss of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial ticket. Adegoke, who holds the traditional title of Aare Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland, has opened a new chapter in his political journey by meeting with influential figures within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State.
The high-level consultation took place at the private residence of Chief Wole Oyelese, Co-Chairman of the PDP Elders’ Council, in the Ikolaba area of Ibadan. Also present at the gathering were several respected party elders, including Dr Saka Balogun, Chairman of the PDP Elders’ Council and former Chief of Staff under late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala; Chief Hamid Gbadamosi and Chief Jacob Adetoro, both from Oke Ogun; Prince Sunday Ogunlade from Oyo town; and Chief Nureni Akanbi.
Although none of the attendees revealed the specific details discussed during the meeting, political analysts believe the gathering was part of Adegoke’s groundwork for a potential governorship bid in the 2027 general election. This assumption is further supported by his recent appearance at a PDP ward meeting, where he openly expressed his desire to serve the state as governor.
Known for his generosity and strong presence in grassroots development, Adegoke has built a reputation beyond politics. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his foundation reached out to support widows and struggling families, especially in Ibarapa and Oke Ogun regions. He has also contributed to key areas like healthcare, education, and infrastructure, gaining him the admiration of many across Oyo State.
His recent alignment with PDP leaders is seen as a strategic move, especially as political realignments begin to take shape across Nigeria ahead of the next election cycle. Conversations like these are becoming more frequent as prominent figures weigh their chances and position themselves for the 2027 race.
