Inter Milan Triumphs Over Barcelona in Extra-Time to Reach Champions League Final

Inter Milan defeated Barcelona 4-3 in an epic extra-time clash to secure a spot in the Champions League final, advancing 7-6 on aggregate.

Inter Milan has secured a spot in the 2025 UEFA Champions League final after a dramatic 4-3 extra-time victory over Barcelona, winning 7-6 on aggregate. The match, played on Tuesday under heavy rain at the San Siro, saw Italy midfielder Davide Frattesi score the decisive goal in the 99th minute. Frattesi’s strike sent the home crowd into a frenzy as Inter completed a thrilling comeback to book their place in the final.

The team, led by coach Simone Inzaghi, will face either Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain in Munich later this month, with hopes of claiming their fourth European title. The victory provided a much-needed boost to Inter’s season, which had faltered after their earlier exit from the domestic cup and losing top spot in Serie A to Napoli.

Frattesi’s goal was particularly dramatic, as it came after Barcelona had staged a near comeback. With just two minutes left in regular time, Raphinha scored to give Barcelona a 3-2 lead, putting Inter on the brink of elimination. However, Francesco Acerbi stunned the Barcelona supporters when he scored an equalizer in the second minute of added time, off a cross from Denzel Dumfries.

The match had seen a series of dramatic moments. Inter had led at halftime, thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu. But Barcelona responded strongly in the second half with goals from Eric Garcia and Dani Olmo, both set up by Gerard Martin. Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer was key, making crucial saves to keep his team in the game, including a remarkable stop against Garcia during a fast-paced Barcelona counter-attack.

As the match progressed into extra time, it was Sommer’s heroics again that denied Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal before Frattesi’s winner sealed the deal. The final whistle sparked wild celebrations in the stands, as Inter Milan now looks ahead to their second Champions League final in three years.
