Iran Vows to Continue Nuclear Program Despite Airstrikes and Ceasefire

Iran’s atomic chief says nuclear work will continue, even after US and Israeli strikes and a ceasefire ending the 12-day conflict.

Iran has declared it will not halt its nuclear operations, despite a ceasefire agreement and recent attacks on its nuclear facilities. Mohammad Eslami, head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran, confirmed this in a state media interview on Tuesday, adding that the country had anticipated such attacks and was prepared for recovery.

His comments followed a series of violent exchanges between Iran, Israel, and the United States. On June 13, Israeli forces carried out major airstrikes targeting Iran’s nuclear and military facilities, killing several high-ranking officials and civilians. Iran responded with multiple missile and drone strikes on Israeli territory, reportedly causing significant damage and casualties.

The conflict escalated further when the United States launched attacks on three major Iranian nuclear sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—on Saturday. Iran retaliated by firing missiles at the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar.

Just hours after this response, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Iran and Israel had agreed to a full ceasefire, signaling an official end to the 12-day confrontation.

However, tensions remain high. On Tuesday morning, Israeli authorities claimed they detected new missile launches from Iran. Iran’s military swiftly rejected the claim, denying any further aggression.

Despite the ceasefire, Iran has made it clear that its nuclear development plans will not be paused, and preparations to restore any damaged infrastructure are already underway.
