The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has firmly rejected conspiracy claims following the technical issues that affected the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results. These glitches impacted candidates from the South-East region and Lagos, sparking accusations that the board deliberately disrupted to hinder candidates’ success, particularly from the South-East.
Addressing the controversy during a meeting with the board’s management before releasing results from the rescheduled UTME, Prof. Oloyede denied any malicious intent. He emphasized that no region was targeted and that every Nigerian candidate has equal opportunities within the examination system.
He also expressed regret over the tragic death of a candidate linked to the examination, with a moment of silence observed in honor of the deceased. The registrar’s statement follows calls from lawmakers in the South-East, including members of the 10th House of Representatives, who demanded his resignation over the glitch, which affected over 300,000 students.
