Jim Nwobodo Backs Governor Mbah for Second Term Under PDP

Jim Nwobodo says Governor Mbah won’t leave PDP and will win re-election in 2027. Tinubu reportedly supports Mbah’s second term bid.

At the two-year anniversary event marking Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, former Anambra State Governor and elder statesman Jim Nwobodo strongly emphasized that Enugu State must continue under the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He dismissed any suggestion that Governor Mbah would switch political parties, assuring the crowd that Mbah would run for re-election in 2027 under the PDP and emerge victorious.

Nwobodo pointed out that Enugu remains the only PDP-led state in the South East, describing it as proof of the party’s enduring influence in the region. He made it clear that the PDP’s leadership in Enugu would not be compromised or handed over to any other political group. According to him, the governor is fully committed to the party and has the support needed to secure a second term.

Since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999, the PDP has dominated elections in Enugu State. However, during the 2023 general elections, the Labour Party gained ground by winning most of the legislative seats, although the PDP retained the governorship. In the months following the election, several Labour Party members, including the party’s 2023 governorship candidate, have reportedly rejoined the PDP.

Also present at the anniversary event was business mogul Prince Arthur Eze, who claimed that President Bola Tinubu had already given his blessing to Governor Mbah’s second term ambition.

During his speech, Governor Mbah acknowledged the weight of responsibility that comes with his role. He admitted that he often struggles to sleep, reflecting on how each decision he makes affects the lives of Enugu residents. He said his commitment to the people and their well-being drives his actions as leader.
