The Kano State Censorship Board has halted the streaming and airing of 22 Hausa film series for not adhering to the board’s guidelines. This action follows a management meeting held on Monday, during which the Board reviewed the matter thoroughly. The Board’s Executive Secretary, Abba El-Mustapha, explained that the Board has the authority to regulate all films produced, marketed, streamed, or broadcast in the state.
The suspended films include titles such as Dakin Amarya, Mashahuri, Gidan Sarauta, and Labarina. The Board has ordered all affected film producers to stop airing or streaming their content immediately. To avoid legal action, they must submit their films to the Board for proper censorship approval by May 25, 2025.
The Kano State Censorship Board has also appealed to television stations and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to cooperate in enforcing these regulations to maintain the professionalism of the Kannywood film industry.
