The Kano State Government has approved an 11-day holiday for school children to observe the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. All primary and secondary schools across the state will begin the break on Wednesday, June 4, 2025. This was confirmed in a statement released by Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, the Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Education.
Boarding students are scheduled to return from holiday on Sunday, June 15, 2025. Day students, however, are expected to return to school on Monday, June 16, 2025. Parents and guardians of students in boarding schools have been advised to collect their children early on June 4.
The Ministry clarified that the rest of the 2024/2025 academic calendar remains unchanged, including all official public holidays.
Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, expressed gratitude to parents for their continued cooperation. He encouraged them to ensure their children resume school promptly after the break. He also extended his best wishes for a peaceful and joyful Sallah celebration.
This development follows a similar situation earlier in the year. In March 2025, three northern states—Katsina, Kebbi, and Bauchi—also granted schools a whole month off during Ramadan, drawing public attention as academic activities continued uninterrupted in other parts of the country.
