A woman, Maimuna Umar Gora, has asked a Shari’a Court in Danbare, located in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, to end her two-year marriage. She told the court that her parents gave her out in marriage without her consent, choosing a man she had never met simply because he owned a farm in their community.
According to Gora, the man, Sabo Shehu Kabara, frequently visited her town and convinced her parents to accept his proposal. She claimed the decision was based on material benefits rather than her well-being or personal choice. Despite several previous efforts in other courts to dissolve the union, she has not been successful.
Gora added that she is in love with someone else and wants to be free to follow her heart. In response to her request, Khadi Munzali Idris Gwadabe directed that a court summons be served to her husband. The matter was postponed until June 12 for further hearing.
